Name: Fallentree
Age: 127 Moons
Gender: Tom
Rank: Elder
Affiliation: The Hidden Valley
Appearance: Fallentree is ancient and unlike his partner in crime, Badgerstar, he is
really showing his age. While the tom was never large or round, he has
lost much of the lean muscle he once had. The elder is thin and frail,
his bones obvious through his fur, no matter how much he eats. His
legs are thin and wobbly, his tail is long but usually limp.
His
face is very gaunt. His once bright green eyes are now dull and almost
useless, along with his thin ears. He is going both deaf and blind,
slowly but surely. His fur has started to ware very thin, especially
along his forehead and stomach due to laying still for ages and years of
cleaning. His coat, although it was never luscious or soft, has
started to go pale and loose the dark stripes that once made him so
beautiful.
In addition to the aging effects, he is also not
capable of moving much. Standing is very painful for him due to joint
and bone injuries. He will move if absolutely necessary but he prefers
to just sit still in the Elder's Den.
Personality: Fallentree is the warm and kind-hearted opposition to the abrasive
Badgerstar. Though the two have been friends for generations and lived
through much together, Fallentree never fell into the depression at
loosing his family and friends that the leader did. Rather then
dwelling on the past he has lost, he revels in the future he watches
unfold around him.
Fallentree has always been known for his
kindness. Even as an apprentice he would volunteer to take care of
gathering bedding and de-ticking the Elders just so that the other
apprentices didn't have to do the unpleasant tasks. Even as a Warrior
he would wake up to take the earliest hunting and patrols so others
could sleep in. Apprentices would often bicker over who would get to be
his apprentice (it was rumoured in their den that he was one of the
easiest and gentlest mentors in the Clan).
He is very protective
of his Clan but his soft spot has always been for the kits. They are
the future and it is his job to inform them of the important things in
the world. Although he has yet to need to, he will fight to the death
to protect the kits of the Clan. Luckily, there are plenty of strapping
young Warriors to do that for him.
The one thing that has yet to
deplete due to his age is his sharp tongue. He had to learn quickly
the best way to respond to Badgerstar's sarcasm and he can hold his own
against even the most hot-headed of apprentices. But on the other side
of his tongue is something sweeter then honey. He is capable of talking
himself out of a hole as easily as any other cat blinks.
History: Fallentree. The name rings love and respect when said in the airs of
WildClan. An old and wise cat, he is seen for his excellence at telling
stories of old and for his voice from StarClan. But he was not always
this old tom who lounges in the sun near the entrance to the Camp. No,
once he had a different name...
Bristleback. The name rang fierce
and true to any-cat who heard it. A brave and courageous warrior he
was, striking fear and hatred into the hearts of his enemies, be them
eagles or badgers or cats. One of the most respected warriors of all
time, Bristleback was proud and true.
But even from kithood he
knew he would not always have the wonderful life of a warrior. As young
Bristlekit played around in the nursery with his brother and sister, the
cats around them could tell he would become very strong. He was
mentored by the best warrior in the camp, Skyhawk, who was a strict
mentor, but a good one. He taught Bristlepaw the best moves to use in
battle, which once won him a fight against two warriors and an
apprentice, and the best ways to hunt. Soon, he became the proud
Bristlepaw, a fierce WildClan warrior.
But even from the days of
pouncing in the nursery he had loved to listen to the elders and their
stories and he couldn’t wait for the day that he would be that old and
wise, when everybody would listen to him. He would spend hours just
lounging with the elders and listening to them talk. He liked the sound
of their raspy voices, cracked with age and experience. Over the course
of his combined seventy-six moons as a fit cat he trained five
apprentices.
He never took a mate. For a very brief time as an
apprentice he had his eye on a she-cat but he never bothered to go after
her and the small flame died away. Instead, he buried his love into
his sister's family. She took a mate that made her happier then
anything and the world and it wasn't long before her first litter was
born. Bristleback doted on the kits almost more then their own father.
Leaf-frost's mate died a few weeks before her second litter was born
and Bristleback took an even stronger role in their lives. One of his
niece's lives with him now in the Elder's den.
One night, about a
moon after his first notion of retirement, there was a huge storm. It
started fairly suddenly and the cats passed it off as a simple shower
and took refuge in their dens. But when a thick, single bolt of
lightning hit a large oak tree just above the nurcery, Bristleback raced
from the warriors den to save the pregnant queen who didn't know of the
danger. Some called it bravery, others foolishness, but he saved the
life of her and her future kits almost at the price of his own. His
frail, aging body was struck by the trunk of the huge oak as he pushed
the queen to safety. Then the storm stopped as suddenly as it had
started.
For three nights the medicine cat, watched over him,
doing his best to safe the poor body of the brave warrior. The
fallowing day, Bristleback was renamed Fallentree.
It took many
moons for him to heal well enough to leave the Medicine Cat's Den. The
move to the Elder's Den was one he had waited generations for and he was
proud of where he now lived. Over the years, he has grown as much of a
friendship with his old leader as possible with the recluse. Despite
his pain and what aging has done to him, he wouldn’t trade his
experiences for all the youth in the world. He misses the old days, of
fighting and hunting, but he loves being looked to for guidance from the
younger cats and he loves being an elder.
